Dragon's Blood Chunks (1 oz)
Dragon’s Blood is a distinct resin. It has a deep red color and an even deeper, dark scent. It is even used by some people to make a dark red ink that resembles blood. My Dragon’s Blood comes bagged with pieces ranging from medium sized flakes to large chunks. Some 1 ounce packages contain only 1 piece of resin. Dragon’s Blood is easy to powder, even by hand.

While the term Dragon’s Blood is often used to describe calamus draco, that plant is rare and endangered. Like many other incense makers, years ago I turned to daemonorops draco and have never regretted it. This dark red resin provides a heavy almost mystical scent to any blend. It is hands-down my favorite resin. It can be powdered with a mortar and pestle or with just a few seconds in a coffee grinder. I don’t suggest powdering Dragon’s Blood in a blender. It tends to heat up very quickly and can actually damage your blender as it hardens at higher heat. Unlike some resins, this Dragon’s Blood does not clump after powdering. Personally, I like to store mine in the largest pieces possible, but if you want to store the powder make sure to keep it out of the light and away from moisture and it will keep indefinitely.
